Description
The V-TUBE project involves the creation of an augmented reality system that allows personnel working on a technological network to see what is present in an area subject to intervention, keeping their hands free. This is possible also when the elements of interest are underground, walled up, or otherwise hidden from view. The system will allow operators to obtain precise and updated information, in order to avoid accidental breakages of pipes and thus also minimizing the number of attempts necessary to identify a particular place suitable for the installation of new services. In this way it will be possible to minimize the impact in economic terms and time of interventions carried out in emergencies, and also improve the design, construction and maintenance processes.
Result to be enhanced
The project has reached the desired maturity and the prototype allows the infrastructural objects to be correctly displayed with good performance (absence of perceptible latencies and good software stability). The positive result was also validated by the end-user Acqua Novara VCO, whose technicians were able to test the prototype in the field. Furthermore, a further hypothesis of use emerged which includes the updating and cleansing of data regarding infrastructures.

The project is important because it allows infrastructure maintainers and designers to:
– reduce intervention costs;
– reduce intervention times and facilitate intervention planning;
– maintain and clean up infrastructure data more easily (GIS + photographic, textual documentation)
