LUBforLIFE
Realisation of an electromechanical actuator for primary flight systems without relubrication for the entire service life.
Description
The ultimate goal of the LUB4LIFE project is the realisation of an electromechanical actuator for primary flight systems without relubrication for the entire service life, impacting Safety – equal or better than classical hydraulic systems, and Product Quality – reliability and performance monitoring.
Result to be enhanced
One of the main achievements of the LUB4LIFE project was the development of a Simulation Based Digital Twin with a predictive lifetime approach and reduced-order virtual models (ROMs) capable of replicating the behaviour of an electromechanical actuator designed with an infinite lifetime in order to improve safety, monitor utilisation, enable rapid decision-making and monitor the load the system has to withstand.
Why is it important?
The project enabled the development and application of a Digital Twin methodology in mechatronics with several benefits:
a. Maintenance with an improvement in the management of maintenance costs of a civil aviation aircraft or UAV between 10% and 20%.
b. Design with an improvement in performance resulting from pre-design optimisation estimated in the order of 30%
c. Characterisation and testing: costs and time for lubricant characterisation and testing of the assembled product can be reduced between 30% and 50%.
d. Time to Market: DT can reduce the time to market of a mechatronic product by between 20% and 50%.
