BAT-MAN
Device for diagnosing future malfunctions of batteries for multiple applications.
Description
Battery infarction is a predictable event. The aim of BAT-MAN is to create a technology base that can be immediately applied for a range of lead and lithium battery monitoring devices that can be easily adapted to various applications (cars, motorbikes, boats, uninterruptible power supplies, anti-theft devices, e-bikes, forklift trucks, campers, etc.). The diagnosis of battery operation is intimately linked to knowledge of the battery chemistry and the prediction of future malfunctions is limited to knowledge of the battery in the construction phase. This means that if a battery changes its condition over time due to ageing or unintended use, conventional monitoring systems are unable to intercept this condition. Is there a reliable and inexpensive device that connected to a smartphone can inform you that a battery needs to be replaced? The answer is: BAT-MAN
Why is it important?
Electric accumulators are an indispensable tool for many applications. It is common experience that the battery does not have a sensor to indicate charge or health status, but that these data are estimated by electronics connected to it. It is common experience that sometimes the behaviour of the battery and the associated estimation provide blatantly wrong information, leading to inconvenience and loss of functionality. Total loss of battery functionality or even battery degradation can have severe consequences for a battery-powered system and can produce economic losses or impact safety. As conditions of use change, it becomes indispensable to have a reliable, up-to-date diagnostic device that is independent of the battery’s construction characteristics but allows it to be used correctly. Correct information on the operating and charging status of a battery enables a user to predict malfunctions and carry out preventive maintenance. In more complex systems (e.g. hybrid or electric cars), the information can be used by a supervisory device that manages the vehicle by resolving the known failure to start an engine or safeguarding the battery pack.
