BIAS
Agri-food traceability management platform.
Descrizione
The BIAS platform is based on the use of innovative technologies, particularly the Ethereum blockchain solution for managing agri-food traceability and the document storage solution based on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System). Document management is crucial for the agricultural context (including the documents necessary for certification processes, which must be stored to ensure product traceability). Additionally, the BIAS platform relies on:
(i) an orchestration system developed, so that the various components of the platform interact transparently;
(ii) decentralized applications (or D-APPs) for interaction between the different modules of the infrastructure architecture;
(iii) the use of predictive algorithms based on artificial intelligence techniques to support precision agriculture, ensuring optimal water levels and maximum yield of the crop in question.
Project and Acronym: BIAS
Innovation Cluster to contact: Polo ICT
Topics: Traceability in the agri-food sector
Why is it important?
From a technological point of view, the BIAS solution offers the supply chains considered a useful tool to monitor the production cycle within the agri-food sector (from product harvesting to packaging and distribution). The core of the project, in terms of traceability functionality, provides companies with an innovative tool and offers, thanks to blockchain technology, legal support. The data entered into the blockchain platform are immutable over time and, therefore, the validation of specific information within the blockchain can provide legal protection to the company against potential threats and attacks from outside.
The added value lies in the effective transferability, from an economic perspective, to the supply chains targeted by the project. The BIAS solution, in fact, manages to make information about its products transparent, enhancing and certifying them. The end consumer can then purchase the final product by viewing the main details related to the product itself (harvest lot, packaging, etc.).
The proposed solution can be integrated with other realities, replicating the analysis, developments, and experimentation carried out for the supply chains considered and adding the functionalities required for each specific supply chain.
