Description

Development and experimentation of industrial productions of wool and hemp fibres for the production of rigid or semi-rigid panels, self-supporting and totally biodegradable, for the use in buildings, in the textile sector and for eco-design. Development and experimentation of industrial productions of sheep wool fibres, using waste wool, otherwise inappropriately disposed of, and hemp fibres recovered from the food supply chain and not used in the textile field, allows the production of panels that can be used in the sustainable buildings as thermo-insulation, for the improvement of acoustic conditions and in Eco-design. Production processes do not foresee the use of connecting resins, chemical additives or synthetic fibres but only use the binding feature of cheratin, present in the wool fibre itself.

Why is it important?

The Fitness panel, together with insulating and sound absorbing properties of excellent level, has excellent hygroscopic and breathable properties. Its application in inhabited spaces allow a good thermal and sound insulation and an absorption of possible excess humidity, making the rooms healthier and more confortable for the people living in them. Moreover, the wool component can absorb the possible present in the air, contributing to cleaning air from this component, dangerous for health. The use of sheep wool and fibre of waste hemp, materials that can’t be used and are sent to disposal or to combustion with high costs and pollution, increase their economic value carrying many advantages to breeders and to hemp cultivators.
