Description<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The gripper CONFIGURATOR created by Marcopolo was born from the need for Samec, a Piedmont-based SME specialising in the production of systems for sheet metal stamping process automation, to make visible the 857 different possible versions of its flagship product \u2018PAGURUS GRIP\u00ae\u2019.
\nSince it was not feasible to show this flexibility on a traditional 2D paper or web medium, Marcopolo proposed to Samec to work together to create a digital tool capable of fulfilling this need effectively, accurately and realistically.
\nStarting from a proprietary development framework, thanks to the collaboration with Samec’s technical department and the joint work of Marcopolo’s software development, UI\/UX and 3D departments, an ad hoc tool has thus taken shape, thanks to which the user can virtually \u2018assemble\u2019 his own customised \u2018Pagurus\u2019 gripper, seeing its 3D – downloadable after registration – forming in real time upon selection of the various parameters.<\/p>\n

Why is it important?<\/h3>\n

The configurator in the first place proved to be a useful tool for the commercial enhancement of the \u2018PAGURUS GRIP\u00ae\u2019 product. Thanks to it, salespeople, distributors and technical departments of potential customers can autonomously and easily compose, thanks to the intuitive and user-friendly interface and the presence of mutually exclusive filters, products that perfectly meet their needs. The 3D models thus constructed, navigable and accurate even from an aesthetic point of view, can also be downloaded in one of the six most popular CAD extensions: CATIA (CatPart), Unigraphics NX (.prt), SolidWorks (.sldprt), step (.stp), Visi (wkf), Parasolid (x_t) and imported into projects.
\nSince each model is associated with a specific part-number, the production system is able to respond adequately to the various market demands and prompted Samec to ask itself how it was possible to react in real time to customer requests and change the paradigm. This led to the idea of equipping itself with a robotic island that would transform what is digitally produced through the configurator into real production, optimising production times, allowing stock and inventory to be reduced and, basically, moving from an economy of scale to an economy of purpose.<\/p>\n
