HEALTH AND LIFE SCIENCES

bioPmed is the innovation cluster dedicated to Health and Life Sciences of the Piedmont Region.

Since its establishment in 2009, bioPmed is managed by Bioindustry Park Silvano Fumero (www.bioindustrypark.eu), the scientific-technological park dedicated to life sciences. Created in 1998 with the aim of fostering the birth and growth of innovative companies and linking the world of academic research to industrial research, the park is now a point of excellence on the national scene.

Since 2016, the bioPmed cluster has been aggregating its members into an association, which now counts about 90 entities, including ten large companies, 60 small and medium-sized enterprises, the three regional universities, five ASLs and hospitals, and ten other organizations (associations, foundations, etc.).

All of the members of the cluster share a common vision and the same strategic approach to development. bioPmed aims to promote the interaction between Research, Industry and Healthcare, stimulate innovation, foster technology transfer and the development of advanced skills, and accompany internationalization processes of companies in the industry.

ROLE WITHIN SISTEMA POLI

The scope of bioPmed’s activities has expanded over time and now includes the coverage of the Health area, understood as a goal to strive for throughout life, through the use of solutions, technologies, products and services from different but converging fields. To address such a broad domain, bioPmed focuses on identifying research problem areas rather than individual technology domains. As a result, companies, their expertise, and their solutions are aggregated not by technology but by the type of problem they can potentially solve.bioPmed then classifies a set of “needs classes” (e.g., prevention, diagnosis, treatment, etc.) with which to associate a broad set of possible solutions. The result is a matrix that, by cross-referencing needs and solutions, identifies some of the most promising market segments to work on.

Within the TIPPS project, bioPmed oversees the Health area, actively works on all WPs, coordinates WP3, and acts as the contact point for the Health & Food area.
