Innovative distributed intelligence system to improve the management of production plants.

Description

The MOREPRO project aims to develop an innovative distributed intelligence system to improve the management of production plants – with particular reference to flexible production lines – thanks to new simulation, monitoring and prediction capabilities of the health status of the plant, machine and their components, and of the wear conditions of cutting tools in the presence of complex machining operations. In particular, the intention is to develop a new digital architecture integrated with machine controllers and plant supervisors to keep the line under continuous control from the point of view of both the quality of individual machining operations (monitoring and prediction of residual tool life) and system productivity (predictive and opportunistic management of maintenance operations).

Result to be enhanced

The project has several highly innovative aspects:

1. Implementation of a distributed intelligence architecture for the intelligent control and implementation of flexible manufacturing systems. This includes the design of edge devices, integrated within a distributed intelligence architecture between the field level and the cloud.
2. Innovative techniques for monitoring and predicting the remaining life of tools and machine components based on new data mining and digital-twin methods that are radically new in today’s Industrial 4.0 context.
3. Demonstration of the architecture and methods mentioned in the previous points in the context of predictive and opportunistic maintenance of a flexible manufacturing system.

Why is it important?

The results obtained open up the possibility of using the methods developed during the project in applications on a wider variety of machine tools.
